FAQ

General

First and foremost, it’s a hobby project for my own enjoyment. I’ve wanted to make something like this for many, many years, but never quite managed to get started. By day, I work as a developer, and I’ve been playing Pokémon since the good old days of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue.

I felt like I needed something new to focus on, and with a little help from ChatGPT for the database side of things, the project finally came to life! It’s a living project — and it might never be truly “finished.”

It’s just me working on it, and I also have a full-time job, a family, a child, and a home to take care of. If you have any feedback, advice, or questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Joltemo is simply a combination of two names: Jolteon and Momo. Jolteon has been my all-time favorite Pokémon — I think it started back when I played Pokémon Stadium on the Nintendo 64, where I would always choose Jolteon.

Momo was the name of my late dog, a Shiba Inu. “Joltemo” eventually became a nickname I used online, so it felt like the natural choice for this project as well.

Also, jolteon115 was my first nick name on a Pokémon Forum, so it feels extra nice to keep a part of that name.

  • CSS – Handles styling and layout.

  • Vercel – Hosts the site and handles deployment.

  • Supabase – Stores and manages Pokémon data in a relational database.

Other

  • Sanity – A headless CMS for managing custom content like images and text.
  • PokeAPI – The source for official Pokémon game data.

Absolutely! Joltemo’s Pokedex is a passion project that takes many hours of work each week — from coding and designing to managing servers and databases. While I do it for the love of Pokémon and web development, hosting and database services aren’t free.

If you’d like to help keep the project running (and my coffee cup full), you can support me through Buy Me a Coffee. Every little bit helps me cover costs and dedicate more time to making the Pokédex even better.

Most of the data comes from PokeAPI, which is the backbone for many Pokémon websites and apps. To make the Pokédex more complete, I’ve also pulled in information from trusted community resources like Bulbapedia and Pokemondb.net

And of course, some details come straight from my own knowledge as a long-time Pokémon nerd.

Challenges

Yes! No one is watching, these are just guidelines for you if you want to up your gaming. With "rules" it just require more of you as a player and might need some more thinking and planning, but that is what really makes it fun! And really nice for us who might think that the newer games are getting a little bit to easy...
